Life in Vietnamese
I finished high school this summer and decided to have a gab year before starting at the university sep. 2010. I was thinking a lot about, what I wanted to do the upcoming year and with my life in generally.
I have always wanted to go to Vietnam and get to know another culture so different from my every-day-life in Denmark. And is there a better way to do that than living with a local family? I doubt it!
Living with a Vietnamese family is an extraordinary experience that you will always remember.
I was so lucky being placed with a family with whom I really connected. I am now part of their everyday life and activities. I love the people I live with. Everybody is so nice to me, and they are trying to help me in every way they can. They are helping me experience the most out of Hanoi and Vietnam.
When you live with a local family, you will pick up the language much faster, you will become a part of the family, they will introduce you to other locals and you can establish many useful connections. You will get to know local people from a completely different perspective and get a deeper insight when you live with them. You can learn a lot about the people, their culture, believes, hobbies and cuisine, an insight that you will hardly get, when you live with other foreign volunteer workers in an international dorm.
I know that living with a host family is not for everyone, but it is certainly an option worth to consider. If you want to plunge into the Vietnamese language, life and culture, then accommodation in a Vietnamese host family is an ideal option. I am sure, living with a family is a great experience and my stay in Vietnam would not be completed without it.
